A Family Practice
Davidson Estate Law is a family estate planning practice including Steven, Joelle (Steve’s wife of over 45 years), and their son Eric. Joelle is the voice of the firm and handles client services, while Eric is an associate attorney. This arrangement works extremely well and allows us to give our clients unparalleled personalized representation that is often missing in larger firms.
Our main office is in Oakland City Center, with branch offices in San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles.
I began practicing law in California in 1975. Upon graduating from the University of LaVerne, I began working for my father Gilbert in his Southern California law firm. I eventually took over the practice from my father, and Gil and my brother, Tim, remained as associate attorneys. So collectively, the Davidson’s have over 115 years of legal practice experience.
Upon moving to the San Francisco Bay Area several years ago, I concentrated my practice on estate planning, and joined the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys. During that time, I co-authored the book GENERATIONS, which was a collaboration with other members of the National Network. Also, during that time, I developed a very successful twelve-unit continuing education course for insurance professionals and taught that class to several-hundred insurance and financial professionals in Northern California. A natural offshoot of that class was the same estate-planning seminar that I offer throughout the Bay Area today.
The continuing education course and estate planning seminars provided quite a large volume of clients. The law firm known as Davidson & Sheehan expanded to five attorneys, became Davidson, Sheehan & Jewel, and successfully created living trust based estate plans for thousands of Bay Area individuals and families. Due to lifestyle and personal decisions, the partners decided to dissolve the relationship and now continue equally successful estate planning practices in different Bay Area locales.
Eric studied political science at UC Berkeley, graduating in 2005. After a brief stint as a commercial real estate broker, Eric became his father’s paralegal in 2009. After working in his father’s firm for 5 years and drafting hundreds of estate plans, Eric decided to go to law school to eventually join his father as a lawyer in the firm. Eric attended Golden Gate University in San Francisco where he focused on estate planning and probate law, with the aim to add many additional years of legal service (and the third generation) to the Davidson law practice. In 2017, Eric finished law school and passed the California bar. Additionally, Eric is currently completing his LLM in Estate Planning and Taxation at Golden Gate University.
